Juneteenth NJ 2010
Our 6th Annual Cultural Heritage Celebration
Thursday, June 10, 2009, 7 – 9 pm
featuring Capoeira by The Afro Brazilian Cultural Center of NJ
ABCCNJ’s
Music and Dance Ensemble bring to their audiences the rich African
influenced rhythms and dances.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that
combines elements of self-defense, dance, acrobatics, music, ritual and
game. Unlike most martial arts, Capoeira is accompanied by music, which
is played on traditional instruments by other Capoeiristas.
The Juneteenth event will take place in the Edison Job Corps Academy, in the
Auditorium/Gym Building
500 Plainfield Avenue, Edison, NJ
The event is free and open to the public.
HISTORY OF THE JUNETEENTH HOLIDAY:
June 19, celebrated by African-Americans as the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865.
